Ladies
SELF-PROTECTION/SELF-DEFENSE WORKSHOP At the request of a group from our local Thompson Rivers University, Aberdeen Judo hosted a women's self-protection/self-defense workshop for 16 ladies. Instructors for the workshop were John Huntley & Geri Huntley, Bill Lee and Sean Kidner. The two-part workshop consisted of safeguarding oneself with precautionary actions (self-protection) and basic defense movements (self-defense) if required. The self-defense portion of the workshop involved basic striking techniques using the Kubotan, Arnis (Filipino Stick Fighting) and focus mitts. Escapes from various types of wrist grabs, chokes and bear hugs from the front and back were covered. Future workshops are being considered.
VAL PROCIUK – SHODAN PROMOTION At the conclusion of formal grading exams, Valerie Prociuk was promoted to Shodan (black belt) rank. Prior to moving to Kamloops from Alberta, Valerie achieved 3rd degree black belt in Wado-Kai karate and a 2nd degree black belt in Ninja-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu. Valerie's partner for her Shodan exam was Sean Kidner.
